Johnson Creek’s Island e-liquid is my third foray into the Red Oak line of 100-percent vegetable glycerin e-liquids after Solstice — which I liked — and Tundra, which I was not fond of. Island is a tropical e-liquid that mixes notes of pineapple and coconut with a base flavor of tobacco, intended to make you feel as though you’re sipping a pina colada or some other tropical drink on the beach. So, does it deliver?
Judging from the e-liquids I’ve tried so far, Johnson Creek does the fruit flavors very well. Although I haven’t been fond of their tobacco and menthol flavors so far, the fruit flavors have been quite nice for the most part. Trying Island for the first time, I was a bit surprised at first by the significant amount of throat hit. Of course, I shouldn’t have been, because that seems to be one of the Johnson Creek hallmarks; but I can’t help but wonder what a little menthol would have done so soften the blow a little bit and remind me more of a frosty beverage. Either way, fans of throat hit are going to be pleased with this one.
In addition to the coconut, pineapple and tobacco flavor notes, I think that there may be just the tiniest bit of menthol to create the overall impression of vaping a frosty tropical drink. Lately, deep under the other flavors, I taste a bit of butterscotch — not normally something I would go for, but here it seems to work.
While a tropical drink isn’t normally the kind of flavor I would go for when vaping, I know that a lot of people love fruit and beverage flavors. If you do, you should definitely give Johnson Creek’s Island e-liquid a try. With just a touch of sweetness and some solid tropical flavors, Island is done right, and I think that people who enjoy fruity e-liquids are really going to like it.
